How bad did it Hurt. After the Oscars 2010

Let’s begin…

So, last night was the Academy awards, and The Hurt Locker was the big winner. I won in the categories that most people see as the bench make for movie of the year (Best Picture and Best Director). It also beat out Avatar, which is the highest grossing movie ever. Some see the decision as controversial and maybe even sense some foul play. Some feel it was a sentimental pick, because of the director because she is the first female to win such an award (by the way, what is a Hurt Locker?? Someone please tell me). That’s the issue I want to address.

I over heard a woman say,
“Man it’s so great that a woman won.”

Then I went online, and that was the leading story.

It sounds good, but should that be the story? I don’t know, and I don’t even think I care. However, that is the story. You always hear about people wanting the nation to change, and when will these types of celebrations stop. I don’t know that it will ever go away. There will always be a first to do something in any culture, city, or country, so it’s not going away.
The only thing that could possibly go away is the admiration for these types of stories (don’t think that will happen as long as newspapers are selling columns. On second thought, it will definitely happen because newspapers are on life support with a DNR).

Personally I’m indifferent to the story, as long as everything is judge by the same standards. I could care less about press coverage. So, if The Hurt Locker was the best, it should have won regardless of director. Now the fact that the director was a woman is a story. One can argue that it’s inspirational, but it’s still a story. No more and no less.

By the way, The Hurt Locker was better than Avatar. Maybe the bitter Ex should have directed both of them?

NCAA College Basketball Top 15, as of 3.7.10

Let’s begin…
So it’s the weekend, and it’s time to release my list of the top college basketball teams.
So here is my list.

My Top Teams

1. Kansas
2. Kentucky
3. West Virginia
4. Syracuse
5. Ohio State
6. Kansas State
7. Vanderbilt
8. Villanova
9. Duke
10. Pittsburgh
11. Butler
12. Tennessee
13. Gonzaga
14. New Mexico
15. BYU

Top 15

1. Kansas
2. Kentucky
3. Ohio State
4. West Virginia
5. Syracuse
6. Vanderbilt
7. Purdue
8. Pittsburgh
9. Kansas State
10. Vanderbilt
11. Tennessee
12. New Mexico
13. BYU
14. Gonzaga
15. Butler

So the most notable thing about this week’s list is that Georgetown has fell out of both list. I think they are good and can beat anyone. The problem is they get beat by anyone, so I have to drop them out.

Despite Duke losing I still have them in the middle of the pack. Though they’re not elite this year. They bring their A game every night, and that’s something I can get behind.

I love the way the Tennessee Vols’ play

Thanks for reading, and feel free to comment.

NCAA Tournament Expansion? I think not

Let’s begin…

Oh there’s been so much on my mind as far as sports go, but I guess I’ll have to settle for this: NCAA Tournament Expansion. They want to expand the NCAA Tournament. Now there are 3 types of people that want to expand the tournament.

1. Coaches: So they can try to keep their jobs.
2. The NCAA: They want to make more money
3. The fans that have teams that aren’t that good.

The one thing that all of these people have in common, is that none of them want to help the tournament become better. I think if you change something that is already great. You should only change it to make it even better. The tournament is great like it is. There are 65 teams that get an opportunity to participate, and about 5 of them in any given year have a chance to win a title.

The only reason the tournament will be expanded (and it will be) is for the money. The NCAA is consumed with making as much money as they can while making sure they limit the people that are making the money, from making money (Players Won’t Get Paid).
• That’s why players don’t get paid
• That’s why they’ll expand
• This is why College Football will keep the BCS.

College Basketball Top 15 as of 2.26.10

Let’s begin…

So, now that we’re coming up on the month of March, college basketball is coming into full swing. I will now start releasing my weekly college basketball rankings. I like releasing my rankings at the end of the week, because then I have to ability to reflect, and it kind of takes all the emotion out of posting on Monday.

I wasn’t sure how I exactly wanted to do it. I didn’t know if I should do the top 5, or the top 25. I didn’t know if I should do the best teams, or the teams having the best season. So, I decide to come to a compromise. I will post 2 list of the top 15. One list will be my top 15 teams, and the other will be the top 15. I hope that didn’t confuse you, but I trust you will figure it out.

So here is my list.

My Top Teams

1. Kansas
2. Kentucky
3. Syracuse
4. Kansas State
5. West Virginia
6. Ohio State
7. Georgetown
8. Pittsburgh
9. Vanderbilt
10. Villanova
11. Duke
12. Purdue
13. Michigan State
14. Butler
15. Gonzaga

Top 15

1. Kansas
2. Kentucky
3. Purdue
4. Syracuse
5. Duke
6. Kansas State
7. Georgetown
8. Ohio State
9. West Virginia
10. Villanova
11. New Mexico
12. Vanderbilt
13. BYU
14. Michigan State
15. Wisconsin

So, there it is. Let me address some obvious differences between my list and the top 15.
I don’t think Duke is a good basketball team. They’re okay, but they’ll be lucky to get to the Sweet 16, and the chance of them making to Elite 8 is virtually impossible. They just don’t have the players to compete with an Elite team. Also Vanderbilt is a sleeper; you should pay very close attention to them.

Thanks for reading, and feel free to comment.

NBA Trade Deadline 2010

Let’s begin…

So, the trade deadline is looming. All trades must be done by Thursday at 3 pm ET. Time for a disclaimer I’m a Cleveland sports fan (So, if you’re expecting me to breakdown how the Knicks can get LeBron, you’re in the wrong place), not by choice, I was born there (If I could choose I would pick New Zealand, just so I could go there without a passport). So I’m a miserable sports fan. To watch Jordan over Craig Elio, Hosea Mesa blow the World Series, Shawn Kemp at 350 in a Cavs uniform, Elway on “The Drive” (I would keep going, but out of nowhere a knife appeared at my wrist and I have to talk my brain into letting it go).

So, I love the fact that the Cavs have had a good team for the last 5 years. We haven’t gotten over the hump, but the year (like last year) feels like our year. The Cavs are said to be in the running to land Amare Stoudemire or Antawn Jamison, which makes me happy.
My problem is they’ve been talking about these trades for like 3 weeks. Does it really take that long? GET IT DONE. Even if the Cavs don’t get them, somebody please get them (So I can get on with fantasying my championship team with the pieces they will actually have.

I know how we can solve the problem. Pat Riley and Danny Ferry should play to 11; make it take it, for Stoudemire. The loser has to play sudden death against Gilbert Arenas, for the Services of Antawn Jamison.

If I ran the league everyone would win.

NBAs Greatest Players. The Fourth Edition

Let’s begin…

So, some time ago I made a huge error in judgment. I wrote a blog some time ago about the greatest NBA players ever. There were some errors, but probably the most deplorable error was the way I evaluated James Worthy. I had Worthy entirely too high on my list. He’s a good player but he probably isn’t in the top 35 ever. He may not even be in the top 40. So I apologize formally for my error in judgment.

So, here’s my new list.

Get ready

I just did the top 14 because after that it started getting questionable, and I don’t want Kevin McHale fans sending me hate mail (Oh yeah, he didn’t make the list. That ends the suspense)

1. Bill Russell
He was the ultimate winner in the NBA. He won as a player and as a coach in the NBA. He has 11 championships, and played on the greatest Celtics’ team of all time. He was just the greatest trust me.

2. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
6 MVPs and 6 Championships, enough said

6-3.
Michael Jordan Kobe Bryant Shaquille O’Neil Magic Johnson
This list is in no particular order. I really couldn’t decide where these guys fit in the next 4 slots. So, I decided to slot them all together (it’s my list I can do whatever I want to do). Michael Jordan was scene as the greatest player ever until he retired, and stayed retired. Then people started thinking, “I don’t remember him beating anyone dominate during his second championship run” (anytime you say, “Second championship run” and there’s an argument. I probably have the problem here). Kobe Bryant is ridiculously good, but when you think about how he changed so much on the court, and how he really was only the best player in the for about 3 seasons. It makes me wonder. Shaquille O’Neil is one of a kind. He has been to the championship with 3 different teams in 2 different eras of the NBA. That’s crazy to think about, but then you think…if he was so great? Why was he traded in his prime? As a teammate how could you not just be the bigger man and figure it out…and oh yeah, why couldn’t he shoot free throws? Now we get to Magic Johnson. He was one of the ultimate teammates. He made everyone around him better, and everyone loved playing with him. He was a winner and did anything to win. He even went as far as playing center in the NBA Finals after the Lakers had an injury.

I think as Kobe and Shaq’s career wind down, I will have a better grip on where they are historically.

I think it will end up being
Shaq, Jordan, Magic, and Kobe in no particular order.

7. Tim Duncan
This is one of the greatest players ever that gets no respect. He’s been a 2 time MVP, 3 time Playoff MVP, and a 4 time NBA champion. However no one talks about him, so let me continue that trend by stopping here.

8. Larry Bird.
He was the greatest pure shooter and the greatest clutch shooter of all time. He dealt with crunch time pressure and delivered every time. My favorite moment of his career was the three point contest where he raised the number one finger before the last shot even went in. It’s one of the greatest NBA photos ever. Now excuse me. I need to change my computers background.

9. Wilt Chamberlain
So, I guess Wilt is famous for having sex with a lot of women, and scoring 100 points. What people don’t talk about is that he was a classic underachiever, and a “Me First Guy”. He has to be this high strictly on the numbers (which are ridiculous).

10. Oscar Robertson
It was really close between him and West. I almost had to just flip a coin. Both were great players, and Oscar was probably better, but he wasn’t nearly the teammate West was. I give the edge to Robertson because he was better skilled, but it could change tomorrow.

11. Jerry West
“Mr. Clutch” is what many in the NBA circle call him. He’s the NBA logo, and ambassador for the game. Beside begin one of the top three Lakers of all time. He built what I believe to be eight championship Lakers teams (check my numbers for accuracy).

12. John Havlicek
Great player. Part of the backbone of the greatest Boston Celtics’ teams ever.

13. Moses Malone
The NBA’s greatest rebounder ever and it’s not even close. Mr. Hard worker is what he was, and we haven’t scene anything like him since.

14. Hakeem Olajuwon.
He was a beast of a player. He Drag a team full of role players to two championships, while serving up (a young) Shaq, an over-hyped Patrick Ewing, and David Robinson. He was a real class act.

I like Car Accidents, Train Wrecks, and Grease Fires

Let’s begin…

So I found out from a trustworthy source, that the cast members of MTV’s Jersey Shore, will be filming the second season of their hit show in (this is where you drum role) Miami on South Beach.

Now I really don’t care where they film the show. As long as they entertain me I could care less. I liked the show when it was in Jersey, and hopefully I’ll like it in Miami.
We’ll see.

I have a sister that lives in Miami, and she loved the Jersey Shore, but since finding out it will be in Miami, she hates. Why? I call it “The Car Accident Effect” everyone like a car accident as long as their not in the driver’s seat. Now that their picking on what she likes, her city, her neighborhood, she doesn’t like it. Even though they’ll still be doing the same stupid stuff, like trying to nab all the “Gorilla Juiceheads” they can.

I think that if it’s good for the goose it’s good for the gander, under most circumstances. I mean really, Jersey Shore is good for no one. I feel the side effects of watching that show for a week, which is convenient because I’m ready for the next show. I guess that makes it okay. So, rock on Jersey Shore. Keep fist pumping, keep beating that beat up, nab “Gorillas”, and stay on your “GTL” schedule while in Miami. Make me laugh while touring America with your show. Heck! Tour the world and let them see the train wreck too. Don’t deprive the world of a good laugh. Just please let me know where you’ll be, because I need time to pack my stuff if you’re coming to my city. I don’t want to be the driver of The Car Accident.
